Snow Queen to drift into Danbury
Danbury locals looking for a way to get into the holiday spirit may want to take in a modern telling of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale ‘The Snow Queen’, which was the basis for the movie ‘Frozen’.
This version is being presented by the WCSU Department of Theater Arts. The family friendly event will feature singing and dancing with colorful costumes and stage decorations, all designed to entertain people of all ages.
The Snow Queen is a musical play in which the eternal struggle between good and evil unfolds as a young girl named Gerda, whose mother has recently died, sets out on a quest to save her friend Kai from the confines of a mystical winter wonderland ruled by the Snow Queen. The story features a number of characters, some of which are animals.
The local production is an adaptation by Michael Oosterom and will be directed by Anthony DePoto. Those who plan to attend may wish to bring their best cameras for picture taking with the little ones, maybe for later use in making holiday cards.
The Snow Queen will be presented this Saturday, December 12 from 3:00 until 4:30 pm, and Sunday at 3:00 pm at the MainStage Theatre in the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Western Connecticut State University’s Westside campus, at 43 Lake Ave., Danbury. General admission will be $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
