Although the building is currently closed, Danbury Library is staying active with virtual programming this week.
This Friday, December 18, the library will stream a live performance of “A Dickens Tale: Live Virtual Performance” presented by Bright Star Children’s Theater. While sitting comfortably in their homes, library patrons and their families can view the traditional tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, his employee Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the three Christmas Eve ghosts as the old curmudgeon turns from miser to philanthropist.
Viewers that have registered prior to the event will receive Zoom Invitations in their e-mails. The event will start at 6:00 pm.
“From Saint to Santa” will be featured online on Zoom this Thursday, December 17 beginning at 6:00 pm. Michael Norris, art lecturer from the Metropolitan Museum Art and the Cloister Museum, will lecture on how the historical Turkish bishop St. Nicholas was depicted in centuries of art, then evolved into American artwork and eventually became what we now know as Santa Claus. This too will be live-streamed.
Thanks to cartoonist Thomas Nast and his images of the modern Santa Claus, many Print shops have been tasked with iconic poster printing of the jolly old elf over the years, with companies such as Coca-Cola using it as part of their branding.
Although the “Saint to Santa” program will be free, patrons must register to receive the program link.
