International flavor comes to Danbury festival

In just over a week, Danbury children and their families will have an opportunity to learn about another culture.

A day has been set aside to celebrate South Asian cultural diversity as The Indian Association of Western Connecticut and CityCenter Danbury present Jai-Ho India - the Fourth Annual Indian Cultural and Food Festival.

Over the past three years, attendance has been steadily increasing and is expected to exceed 4,000 this year.

Jai-Ho, which takes its name from a Hindi phrase meaning “let victory prevail”, will celebrate all things India with music, dance, arts, and crafts (including the ever popular henna painting), and fashions. Stalls will serve food from all over India. Restaurants, established businesses, and nonprofit organizations will also be represented. Community performances and cultural activities will continue throughout the day. The highlight of the evening will be a free ‘Bollywood’ style concert.

Sponsors still have time to get their information submitted before banner printing is done to advertise during the event. The festival is just one of many events that the organization hosts to continue its mission of bridging Indian culture to the U.S.

It will be held Saturday, August 16, from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm at CityCenter Danbury Green, Ives Street, Danbury. If it rains, the concert will be held at Broadview Middle School, and the rest of the festival will be moved to the following day.
