Danbury youngsters celebrate Halloween

Stew Leonard's will be holding a Trick-or-Treat event and Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center will be presenting Samhain "Irish Halloween" towards the end of October.

The one-and-a-half-hour Samhain "Irish Halloween" event geared to children from eight years old to twelve will explore the meaning of Samhain and its influence on US modern-day Halloween with stories, refreshments, music, and crafts.

Margaret Fitzgerald, a long-time music teacher, will be guiding the children in music, song, and dance. Meanwhile, scenic designer Elizabeth Popiel will help the children create Celtic lore-style masks and capes. She and Nora Hanley will be playing Irish fiddles.

Guests are encouraged to dress in their Halloween costumes for the parade around the Irish Cultural Center at the end of the evening. Tickets are $5 and space is limited.

Samhain "Irish Halloween" will take place Sunday, October 20 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center, 6 Lake Avenue.

Soon after, kids who are eight years old or younger are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat at Danbury's Stew Leonard's. Children will be given clear Bags to fill with candy as they go from station to station in the store. Wow the Cow and other Stew Leonard characters will be available for photos with the kids. Stationery printers often use photos taken at events such as this for their seasonal cards.

The free Trick-or-Treat event will be Tuesday, October 29 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Stew Leonard's, located at 99 Federal Road.
