Danbury prepares for Irish celebrations






Danbury will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with corned beef, Irish entertainment, and a parade.









The celebration will actually begin on March 16th with the opening of the Greater Danbury Cultural Center at 11:00 am followed by the flag-raising at City Hall at noon. The Center will be serving corned beef dinners and sandwiches throughout the day.





Entertainment will begin at 1:00 pm with the Thorne Academy of Irish Dance. Mini Seisiuns (Irish music sessions) will play from 3:00 pm until 4:15 pm, and again from 4:45 pm to 5:30 pm. An Irish soda bread making demonstration will take place from 4:15 pm until 4:45 pm.





On St. Pat’s Day, the Center will open at 9:00 am and corned beef sandwiches and dinners will be served from noon until 7:00 pm. Entertainment will start at 2:00 pm with the Ashurst Academy of Irish Dancing, Steve O’Tree & Friends will play traditional Irish music, and Chicks ‘n Sync will end the evening.





The Danbury St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off March 24 at 2:00 pm on Main Street at St. Peter Church. The route will turn onto West Street and end at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center. Marchers, dancers, floats and bands will participate.





Groups in parades such as this like to have special green, orange, and white banner printing done in order to honor the Irish flag.
