Danbury holds second annual Juneteenth

The Danbury Juneteenth Coalition is inviting everyone to its “Day of Freedom,” a free 2nd Annual Danbury Juneteenth Celebration. This year’s theme will be “Educate. Empower. Engage.”

MSM and D.J. Frank Stewart will provide the music. Local performers and artists will include African drummers and hip-hop artist D.J. Gaines. Members of Divine 9 sororities and fraternities will feature a Step Show and Stroll Showcase.

A wellness center and health fair will feature health and fitness experts and healthy living guest speakers, while local medical service providers give health screenings and free Covid-19 vaccinations.

One of Danbury’s local artists, Elizabeth White, will facilitate a “Ritual Open” banner installation. This is a traveling exhibition currently in New York City’s DeWitt Clinton Park depicting the theme of rituals. Another art installation that will be on display is a tribute to Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm called “The Folding Chair Collective.”

A special educational resource station will be set up with information in such areas as banking, employment opportunities, and homeownership. Children can enjoy a Kids’ Corner with activities such as arts and crafts, face painting, and balloon art.

Organizations that distribute resource information like this often get updated Business Cards ready and have some flyer printing done beforehand to get the information out to passers-by.

Danbury Juneteenth Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 17 from noon to 5:00 pm at WCSU Midtown Campus, 181 White Street.
