Danbury attends concerts at the IVES

The Ives will present two quite different performances in mid-July.

Connecticut Ballet will hold a performance on Sunday, July 14th. This will be an evening of “Ballet Under the Stars.” This year Connecticut Ballet performers will bring a new program of contemporary and classical ballet. Brett Raphael, Artistic Director of the company, will narrate the program that will include three premieres for the ballet company. These will be works choreographed by West African, Cuban and American artists. The performance will begin at 7:30 pm.

Starting at 2:00 pm on the 20th, the music genre takes a drastic turn as the venue will host the 5th annual Forever Grateful Music Festival. This day of non-stop music will celebrate the times and music of the Grateful Dead. General admission will be $20.

True Dead-Heads will get the V.I.P. tickets, which will include admission, drink and food vouchers, a commemorative lanyard and Forever Grateful T-Shirts sporting the event’s graphic design.

Everyone can bring their own blankets and chairs, and there will be plenty of food vendors.

Eleven bands on the lineup for this year. Among the groups, Shakedown, Stella Blue’s Band and RGB will play Grateful Dead covers; Jen Durkin will pay tribute to Janis Joplin and Brothers of the Road will bring back the music of the Allman Brothers.

Ives Concert Park is on the Western Connecticut State University Westside Campus, at 43 Lake Avenue Extension.
