Local event shares the power of maps in Avon
Avon residents with an interest in cartography may want to save space in their plans for next month, as a unique author event is scheduled to take place in town.
The Radical Cartography: How Changing Our Maps Can Change Our World event, led by acclaimed author and historian William Rankin, is set to open its doors to interested parties who want to learn more about the power of maps. The event will combine a presentation by Rankin, followed by a moderated conversation in celebration of the author’s newest book.
Rankin’s book argues about what maps represent and how they can be used, and that they are not mere visualizations of facts. The presentation will be filled with colorful and impressive maps that Rankin has created in collaboration with other top mapmakers. Brochure printing is an excellent resource for such events, providing the audience with the agenda and additional information about the topic.
Rankin has an extensive background in the subject of maps, working as a historian of science at Yale University, teaching courses on geographic sciences and the history of mapping. Interested parties are asked to register in advance to ensure enough seating at the host venue.
The Avon Free Public Library in downtown Avon will host the presentation and discussions on Wednesday, November 19, at 2:00 pm. Registration is open online.
