Composting workshop promotes sustainability in Avon

A sustainability learning opportunity is coming to Avon this autumn, and residents who want to repurpose food waste will want to make their reservations.

The Backyard Composting Made Simple in-person workshop, which is being put together by the Avon Free Public Library, will begin welcoming registered guests and visitors this November to bring interested individuals into the world of composting. The program, which aims to provide a welcoming environment to gardeners of all experience and skill levels, will shed light on the composting basics and help each attendee learn how to begin composting at home.

It is an ideal workshop for those who already have a composting system, as well as individuals who want to build one but are unsure of where to start. The workshop will also look closely at the environmental benefits of composting. Grassroots marketing campaigns can pair well with flyer printing to promote community events like this to more people, leading to higher attendance numbers.

Students will also learn about the best composting methods to use, tips to get started, and the ways in which compost can enrich soil. Bob Lavorgna, a UCONN Master Gardener, will lead the experience.

The in-person workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4th, starting at 6:30pm. It will be held at 281 Country Club Road in Avon. Registration is open online through the Avon Library and is free of charge.
