Noted scientist to appear in San Diego

He mixes science with entertainment, makes learning fun, and is now coming to San Diego.

Professor Brian Cox is a television presenter, physicist, and in the 1980s and 1990s played keyboards with Dare, a rock band, and was on two albums released by the outfit. He also played with D:Ream, who charted several times in the UK. In 2015, he played keyboards with New Order, performing live.

Even as he was making music, he was also studying physics at the University of Manchester, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and his PhD. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy after D:Ream broke up in 1997.

His background in performing arts and science make him comfortable in front of an audience, and he has appeared in numerous television programs, both as a presenter and as an actor, though he always appears as himself. He has presented such programs as “What on Earth is Wrong with Gravity?,” “Can We Make a Star on Earth?,” and co-hosted all six series of “Stargazing Live.” He played himself on an episode of “Dr. Who,” and a year later presented a special called “The Science of Dr. Who.”

A review of Cox’s “Horizons” lecture said:

“Overall, “Horizons: A 21st Century Space Odyssey” was a spectacular live show that should be experienced by all.”

Professor Cox will be at the Balboa Theatre on June 20. Promotions for this type of event can be created when organizers use poster printing.
