Military music comes to San Diego area

A very special concert is planned for the San Diego soon.

The Singing Sergeants, one of six ensembles that make up the United States Air Force Band, will be presenting a concert in the San Diego area. The group is the official U.S. Air Force chorus, and is stationed in Washington, D.C. The 23 members of the Singing Sergeants give more than 200 concerts each year, performing everything from Broadway to standard choral numbers and opera. At times, individuals from the group divide and perform as duos, or barbershop quartets, often at diplomatic functions.

The ensembles that comprise the U.S. Air Force Band are the Air Force Strings, a 20-piece string ensemble that often strolls as it plays, without the assistance of a conductor. The Airmen of Note are an 18-piece jazz ensemble that includes a vocalist; the Ceremonial Brass is a 38-piece group that provides music at official ceremonies, such as funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. The Concert Band is the premiere group of the six, a 53-piece wind ensemble that often plays classical music, while the six-piece Max Impact is a rock band. All of the musicians in the ensembles are on active duty.

The USAF Band Singing Sergeants will appear at St. James-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, which is on Prospect Street in La Jolla, a San Diego suburb. The program runs from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Saturday. February 15. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events of this type.
