Coworking spaces open to public

The coworking concept is gaining in popularity, but few people have ever seen a coworking space. A special event aims to change that.

San Diego Coworking Week is underway, and eight spaces around the city are open to visitors, who can check them out for free. The spaces are not all open all week, but there's still time to visit several.

Coworking spaces are offices that are shared, often by people from different companies. They usually comprise private offices as well as common areas, with wi-fi, kitchens, coffee, and supplies. Some of the more luxurious spaces offer studios to use to create podcasts, and beer on tap. The spaces are inexpensive to rent, and rentals may be extremely short.

San Diego and San Diego County have experienced an explosion in coworking spaces, until today there are approximately 90 in operation. Those that are open are:

Downtown Works in Little Italy, open August 7 from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm;
Ansir Center at Scale Matrix Launch Center in Kearny Mesa, open August 7 from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm;
Hera Hub, which has locations in Carlsbad, Sorrento Valley, and Mission Valley, is open August 8 from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm; and
The Nest in Little Italy, which welcomes visitors on August 9, from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm.
