What's Happening in San Diego - Kearny Mesa, CA…

Band offers mix of styles to San Diego audiences

A band touted as providing a little rock, funk, blues, and a lot of soul is coming to San Diego.

BoomBox is the creation of multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Zion Rock Godechaux who came up with the idea in 2004 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Godechaux said that his music includes anything people heard coming from a boombox. Throwing everything into the pot and letting it simmer has worked beautifully for him.

Godechaux talks about the magic found throughout the world, and says that in the West, the Blues has had a strong influence on voodoo. He was drawn to this concept, using it in his music.

Fans, however, have no problem as they happily follow everything the group, which was a duo of Godechaux and Russ Randolph, both of whom have worked as DJs. They released five albums from 2005 to 2016, when Randolph left the band. During this period, they enjoyed playing festivals like Red Rocks, and had millions of plays on the Spotify platform.

In 2019, Kinsman MacKay came aboard, a move that Godechaux finds especially exciting. Calling MacKay his “brother from the same mother,” he notes they have a special chemistry and have been playing together since 2003. A review of the band says:

“Always a vibetastic dance party with power duo Boombox.”

BoomBox will be at the Music Box in San Diego on December 6. When they plan shows like this, organizers will often use poster printing to create advertising.
