Young people in San Diego make cards for service personnel

Charlie Fleishman, who is the Director of the Service to the Armed Forces, a part of the Red Cross, is working with young people to make Holiday Cards for service personnel, according to an article on the NBC San Diego website.

Fleishman, together with more than 30 Red Cross youth club members, used crayons and construction paper to start making cards at the kick-off event for the ‘Holiday for Heroes’ campaign. They worked on the project in Balboa Park on Saturday, November 12.

Fleishman said the group was trying to make sure military personnel who were not going to be home for the holidays received cards. Cards were also going to veterans who, for one reason or another, would also not be home, such as those who are hospitalized. The cards will be passed out to active duty personnel, their families, and veterans who are in the VA hospital.

Fleisher says making the cards is a way to help military families remain connected during separations, plus it was also a way for members of the public to say thank you to military personnel for their service. San Diego has a heavy military presence, so it is important service people know the community recognizes and supports them.

Organizations like this can benefit by working with postcard printing companies, which can create cards for Mailing, to announce these types of efforts.
