Swamp rock star coming to San Diego

A star of the “swamp rock” genre is coming to San Diego.

John Fogerty is one of the founders of the hugely successful band, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), which got together in 1972. The band was formed by Fogerty, his brother Tom, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford. Fogerty was the group’s principal songwriter, guitarist, and lead singer. Between 1968 and 1972, CCR had eight albums rated Gold, and put nine singles in the Top Ten. Among those songs are titles that are still familiar today: “Down on the Corner,” “Green River,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Proud Mary” among them.

The group broke up shortly after they released the album “Mardi Gras.” Shortly after that, Fogerty released “The Blue Ridge Rangers,” though he was the only member of the “group,” and followed that with “John Fogerty” in 1975. After that, he took a break from music entirely for several years.

He came roaring back with “Centerfield,” which he released in 1985. It went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and spawned “The Old Man Down the Road,” a Top 10 single. The album was certified 2x Platinum.

A review Fogerty in concert says:

“. . . the venerable Mr. Fogerty put on one of the most rockin’, boogyin’ shows this stodgy reviewer has seen in quite some time.”

John Fogerty will be at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on September 4. When they schedule events like this, organizers will frequently turn to poster printing to promote them.
