'Star Wars' fans got a terrific treat this year at Comic-Con, when they were able to view a behind-the-scenes reel of footage from the upcoming movie.
The film clip, showed at San Diego Comic-Con, allowed fans to get a close-up look at some of the props, sets, costumes, and special effects from the new movie. Although the reel did not feature any actual footage from the upcoming film, it did serve to bridge generations of moviegoers - those who grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy, and those who are just starting to enjoy these movies.
The real highlight of the Star Wars section to the convention was a panel discussion featuring director J.J. Abrams, as well as cast members from the upcoming addition to the saga, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, among others. Original cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) also took part, receiving huge rounds of applause. A surprise appearance by Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, nearly blew the roof off of the convention center. The iconic antihero got a standing ovation from the excited crowd.
Convention organizers could build on this year's success by working with brochure printers to create a booklet of highlights from the event, and making them available for sale alongside tickets for next year's event.
