San Diego seeks developers for sports arena

A notice of availability has been issued by the city of San Diego concerning a 48.5-acre site that includes the Sports Arena area, letting the developers know of its intention to lease the site for redevelopment.

Proposals from developers must include at least a quarter of its housing units being affordable. The higher the number of affordable units, and the higher the degree of affordability, the more likely a developer’s proposal will be looked upon favorably.

Mayor Todd Gloria expressed his excitement over the development, saying:



"San Diego has a rare opportunity to remake a part of the city that is desperate for revitalization."




Developers have 60 days to submit their proposals. One or more of the received proposals, provided they are Surplus Land Act compliant and meet notice of availability (NOA) requirements, may become a party to a good-faith negotiating period with the city lasting 90 days. Then, the full council, as well as the City Council’s Land Use and Housing Committee, will receive an update on the results of the process sometime in early 2022.
