San Diego moves to ease traffic congestion

Most cities have “trouble spots” where traffic backs up, and in San Diego, the Golden Triangle area is one area that's almost always congested. However, according to an article from CBS8 Television posted June 15, 2016, new carpool lanes as well as direct access ramps will be open soon. Many of San Diego's life science and high-tech companies are located in the Golden Triangle, and daily traffic is heavy.

The project cost $119 million, and for that sum, workers constructed ramps and carpool lanes. The lanes run from Mira Mesa Boulevard to Route 52, and the access ramp is at Carroll Canyon Road. The ramp allows vanpools, carpools, motorcycles, and clean air vehicles that have permission to use the carpool lanes to access them directly, instead of having to weave through freeway traffic to reach them.

Caltrans' district director, Laurie Berman, said the new lanes will connect to other “high-occupancy vehicle lanes” further north, as well as giving drivers more reliable, quicker options. Berman said the new construction gives drivers a 13-mile, unbroken stretch of HOV lanes in North County.

Funding for the project came from a half-cent sales tax, in addition to federal and state funds. The new lanes should open soon.

Organizations like this can benefit from working with a newsletter printing company to disseminate information to residents and commuters who may be unaware of new construction.
