San Diego announces road closures during Comic-Con

Comic-Con is on the way, and convention organizers recently confirmed the roads that will be closed during the event, according to an article on Patch.com.

Harbor Drive, which runs directly in front of the Convention Center, will be closed between Park Boulevard and First Avenue from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm on the convention's first day; from 7.00 am until 10.00 pm the second, third, and fourth days; and from 7.00 am until 8.00 pm on the final day. Poster printing can be used to provide directional Signs for situations like this.

The closure applies to all non-pedestrian traffic, including scooters, dockless bikes, skateboards, bicycles, and cars. In addition, convention attendees will need to have a valid badge to gain access to the convention center, the sidewalks and terraces adjacent to the main building, or the drive in front of the structure. The other piers, shops, restaurants, and parks near the convention center will remain open to the public during the entire length of Comic-Con.

Clifford Rippetoe, who is the CEO and president of the convention center, described the convention as a “global, pop-culture phenomenon” and the center's biggest annual event, drawing over 135,000 people. Since the crowds are so large, the center has partnered with the Port of San Diego and the City of San Diego to make sure everyone has a good experience at the convention, while residents retain their access to the bay.

Comic-Con 2019 is set for July 17 through July 21.
