Running for a cause in San Diego

Participants in an upcoming race will have a chance to support a worthy cause while they get some exercise this fall.

For the fourth year, the Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon, 5K & Wish Walk is returning to San Diego. The race is taking place around Mission Bay, which means the course is not only scenic, but also flat throughout its length.

The half marathon is a loop that will start from Ski Beach, wind through the Crown Point neighborhood, and roughly circle Mission Bay moving from west to east, then south, until turning west onto Sea World Drive. Runners will cross the bridge over the San Diego River onto Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, down West Point Loma Boulevard to the water, then double back, crossing the bridge again, and following Ingraham Street to the finish line, also in Ski Beach.

The 5K is a loop, starting and ending at Ski Beach, and taking participants through the Crown Point neighborhood. The Wish Walk follows the same course as the 5K, but starts later, to give the runners a chance to move out ahead of those moving more slowly.

The event is scheduled for October 4, with the half-marathon having a tentative start time of 6:45 am; the 5K beginning tentatively at 7:30 am, and the Wish Walk at 7:35 am. The money raised by the event is to benefit Make-A-Wish San Diego. Banner printing can be used to create course markers for events like this.
