Rapper bringing tour to San Diego

A rising young rap star is on his way to San Diego to bring in the new year in his own way.

Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, better known as Chance the Rapper, is a Chicago native who began making a name for himself in 2012, when he released his first mixtape, “10 Day.” He followed that up with a second mixtape, “Acid Rap” in 2013, and another, “Coloring Book,” in 2016.

All three mixtapes won critical praise, but “Coloring Book” also earned three Grammys, including Best Rap Album, and climbed to the number eight spot on the Billboard 200. “Coloring Book” is also the first album released in streaming-only format honored with a Grammy. Chance has now released his first studio album, “The Big Day,” and is touring to support it.

In addition to his career as a soloist, Chance the Rapper handles vocals for The Social Experiment band, and is a member of SaveMoney, a Chicago collective. He is a social activist within the Chicago community.

Chance the Rapper will appear at the Balboa Theatre, performing songs from “the Big Day” as well as his earlier works. The Balboa was built in 1924 as a movie palace and vaudeville house, and after being closed for a time, has been completely renovated.

Chance the Rapper will appear on January 15 at 7.00 pm. The theater is at 868 Fourth Avenue, at E Street. Graphic design could be used to create edgy designs for advertisements for events like this.
