Rady's patients enjoy mid-October spooks

Halloween came early to patients at San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital.

On Thursday, October 13, children throughout the facility transformed themselves into princesses, boxers, superheroes and other characters, thanks to a gift from Spirit Halloween, a chain store that opens for a limited time each year. The store hosted a Halloween party at Rady Children's Hospital, decorating the halls with all sorts of spooky attractions, and providing a number of different costumes for patients.

One patient, a girl named Jessica Madueno, chose a boxer's costume. She says she chose it because she is a fighter and it was perfect for her, adding she was fighting cancer.

Many activities scheduled were, including a visit from Chase, one of the characters on the Nickelodeon Channel's animated television series ‘Paw Patrol’. The show features a team of six rescue dogs (Skye, Zuma, Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, and Chase) and their human leader Ryder. The group works together to protect its community, Adventure Bay. The shows focus on issues such as problem-solving and citizenship.

The event is part of Spirit Halloween's ongoing Spirit of Children campaign, which began in 2006. Through these events, the store raises money for children's hospital across the country, and has given $390,764 thus far to Rady.
