Poway schools invite the community to ball game

The Poway Unified School District (PUSD) is getting set to enjoy ‘PUSD Day at Petco Park’, the downtown San Diego stadium that the San Diego Padres call home.

The district hopes that residents will join in with the event at the park. John Collins, who is the superintendent of the Poway schools district, will throw out the first pitch of the game, in which the Padres are slated to face off against the San Francisco Giants.

The day is, in part, a celebration in honor of Tony Gwynn, who played for the Padres for 20 years and is one of the few players who was never traded to another team. Gwynn lived in Poway for over 30 years, and his children attended public school there. He passed away in June this year, and his fans will no doubt want to take this opportunity to remember him.

Those participating in PUSD Day may purchase a ticket for $20 (normally $39.50). This includes a pre-game show by students from Poway, as well as special seating for the group. Attendees may also buy vouchers for $5 to get a hot dog and soda. All monies raised during the day go to benefit the school district's foundation.

PUSD Day at Petco Park is scheduled for September 21, with the game set to start at 1:10 pm. Event organizers could work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer to announce the event.
