Gordon Lightfoot has released 20 studio albums, dozens of singles, and several compilation and tribute albums. Throughout his decades-long career, he has experimented with many musical styles, but is best known for establishing the folk-pop genre. His hits include “Summertime Dream,” “Sundown,” and the haunting “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” based on a real event—the loss of the ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald in a storm on Lake Superior.
Lightfoot began performing when he was in elementary school, initially concentrating on singing, then adding drums and piano, and finally settling on the guitar as his chosen instrument. In addition to performing his own songs, his melodies have been covered by artists such as Ian and Sylvia, Marty Robbins, and Peter, Paul, and Mary.
A review says:
“Wonderful concert . . . had a wonderful time. Lightfoot is a terrific writer, performer and entertainer.”
Also on the bill is Max Gomez, a native of New Mexico who has been compared to John Prine and Jackson Browne because of his success in blending folk and Americana. A review notes:
“His lyrics and music are as fresh as his appearance and stage presence.”
The concert is set for Saturday, December 3 at the Balboa Theatre. Organizers of events like this can easily create programs for the audience using brochure printing.
