Nine-figure sum provided for rail projects

San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the North County Transit District (NCTD) have been awarded a grant of $106m from the California Transportation Commission to fund an assortment of projects across the San Diego region.

The bumper grant will be applied to the $202m slate of projects that will part of the city’s portion of Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo rail corridor. Some of these projects include the construction in the Gaslamp of the COASTER Convention Center Platform, stabilization of the Del Mar Bluffs, Camp Pendleton rail line improvements, and the initial phase of the San Dieguito Bridge.

Poway Mayor and SANDAG Chair Steve Vaus explained the importance of the grant:

"This funding is critical to SANDAG's goal of improving the speed, capacity and safety of rail service along the second-busiest rail corridor in the nation. SANDAG remains fully committed to securing the bluffs in the short-term and identifying a feasible long-term solution for the corridor."

Transportation options are among the type of information organizations such as chambers of commerce forward to printing services for inclusion in their city promotional packets.

Both SANDAG and NCTD have indicated that they would approve of trade corridor enhancement grant money being used to improve coordination of rail crossing gates and rail speed to shorten signalling, and thereby minimize rail crossing delays.
