More work scheduled on Bayshore Bikeway

The Bayshore Bikeway has been called a “regional gem” by both bicyclists and city officials, and the popular path is about to reach another milestone, according to an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

In the next several months, construction is scheduled to start in National City on an additional stretch of the trail. The finished Bikeway will run for 24 miles through several communities that lie on San Diego Bay – downtown San Diego, National City, Imperial Beach, Coronado, and Chula Vista. At present, about 15 miles are finished and in use.

Greg Cox, a San Diego County supervisor, was instrumental in getting the Bikeway built, and he is excited about the idea the project could be completed within three years. He notes that the Bikeway provides a smooth, safe place for people to ride, including some who are now riding their bikes to work. He adds that having the opportunity to ride more ties in with the Live Well San Diego initiative of encouraging exercise.

The Bikeway, which has been built in sections, is part of the California Coastal Trail, and is expected to be completed by 2020.

Attractions like this draw people from many different regions, some coming from out of state, and can benefit if officials work with brochure printers to create Booklets, containing maps, that show the routes in detail.
