Metal band coming to San Diego

A band known for playing metalcore will appear in San Diego.

Beartooth launched in 2012 in Columbus, Ohio, as a solo project by Caleb Shomo, frontman of Attack Attack! In 2014, though, the project transformed into a full band, and became one of the hottest metalcore outfits in the world. The success of Beartooth represents a second chance for Shomo, who was widely mocked for introducing “Crabcore” to the world—crabcore is the physical position Shomo and other guitarists took as they played, squatting close to the floor with his legs out, thus resembling a crab. The teasing had a devastating effect on Shomo, who was battling clinical depression, and he left the band.

Fortunately for metal fans, Shomo had already worked on material for Beartooth, and he put together the new band using members of another band from Columbus, My Ticket Home. They released “Disgusting,” their debut album, in 2014, and followed it up with a tour that included a stop in the U.K. Their most recent studio album, “The Surface,” released in 2023, went to No. 1 on the U.S. Hard Rock chart. A review says:

“Would 100% recommend seeing these guys live because they love it just as much as we do, there's a great atmosphere and the live songs are incredible!”

Beartooth will be at the SOMA Mainstage on February 21. Organizers of events like this will often use poster printing to promote them to the fans of specific music genres like metalcore.
