The Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego is putting together a party to get the holiday season started, and everyone is invited.
The fun includes the Little Italy Tree lighting ceremony and the return of the Christmas Village. The entire neighborhood will sport holiday decorations, and Santa has promised to stop in for a visit. There will be live music, and rides in horse-drawn carriages.
Children will be able to take photos with Santa and talk to him in “Santa's Living Room,” which is located on India Street. Next door to Santa's place, ArtReach, and Washington Elementary STEAM Magnet School plan to set up a space where children can enjoy arts and crafts.
Little Italy Mercato vendors will be between West Fir and West Cedar Streets, along India Street, and offering stocking stuffers and holiday gifts.
There are two Christmas trees in Little Italy, one in Piazza Basilone, and a second in the Piazza della Famiglia. The Basilone tree is 25 feet tall and is made up of over 1,000 poinsettia plants, and will be illuminated for the entire evening. The second tree will be the focus of a tree-lighting ceremony.
The celebration takes place from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on December 1. Santa's Living Room is open from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, and the tree lighting in Piazza della Famiglia takes place at 6:30 pm. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts listing the timing of events like this.
