Jazz in Americas Finest City

Jazz lovers have an event coming up they are sure to enjoy.

The San Diego Jazz Fest & Swing Extravaganza is now in its 43rd year and is one of the longest-running jazz festivals in existence. The event, which began in 1980, celebrates the jazz that was played in the early 20th century, and always takes place on the Thanksgiving weekend. Artists participating in the festival play a variety of musical genres including rhythm and blues, gospel, boogie woogie, ragtime, blues, swing, and traditional jazz.

At present, 18 artists have been invited to attend, and more will be added to the list as the festival dates grow closer. Invitees include the High Society Jazz Band, and Sue Palmer & Her Motel Swing Orchestra.

The High Society Jazz Band plays traditional jazz but put their own spin on it. A six-piece ensemble, they play Latin, big band, swing, Dixieland, Chicago-style jazz, and New Orleans jazz. They have been performing in the San Diego area for more than 30 years.

Sue Palmer & Her Motel Swing Orchestra are well-known in San Diego, where they have performed for more than 30 years. In 2018, Sue was inducted into the San Diego Music Hall of Fame, and has won many San Diego Music Awards.

This year’s Jazz Fest is set for November 23 – 27 at the Town & Country Resort in Mission Valley. Events like this benefit when organizers use poster printing to create colorful advertising to bring in audiences.
