Guitar legend to appear in San Diego

A guitarist, singer/songwriter, and producer who gained notice as a member of an innovative band is set to appear in San Diego.

Steve Hackett first made his mark as a member of Genesis. During his time with the outfit, he worked on one EP, seven singles, three live albums, and six studio albums. Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were also members of Genesis during Hackett’s tenure with the group.

Hackett released “Voyage of the Acolyte,” his first album as a solo artist, in 1975, while he was still appearing with Genesis. Hackett released more individual projects, and then in 1978, got together with Steve Howe to found GTR. The supergroup released its self-titled debut album “GTR” which went to No 11 in the U.S., and featured the track “When the Heart Rules the Mind,” a single that made it into the Top 20. After GTR called it quits, Hackett resumed his solo work, recording and touring worldwide.

Over his career, Hackett has explored a wide variety of styles including progressive rock, blues, classical music, world music, and pop. Guitar World said Hackett’s methods of playing were way before their time, and influenced other guitarists like Brian May and Eddie Van Halen. A review notes:
“I've heard lots of Steve's post-Genesis music . . . The gig, however, just blew me away.”

Steve Hackett will be at the Balboa Theatre on November 16. When shows like this involving renowned musicians are planned, organizers can use poster printing to create advertising for them.
