Good vibrations in San Diego

One of pop music’s most iconic bands will perform in San Diego.

The Beach Boys first got together in 1961 in Hawthorne, California. The founding members were the three Wilson brothers – Dennis, Brian, and Carl – along with friend of the family Al Jardine and the Wilsons’ cousin Mike Love. The group became known for their subject matter, which celebrated youth, especially Southern California surf culture, their vocal abilities, and their musicality.

Their unique sound was a blend of the rock of the 1950s, earlier pop groups, and R&B from black artists. With Brian at the helm, they used unusual methods of recording and added jazz or classical touches to devise their signature sound.

They began their career as a garage band, and released “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” which proved to be a national hit for them, in 1963. The tune turned out to be the first in a series of singles that went to the Top 10, and created the “California sound” that painted a picture of cars and surfing that reflected the state’s youth culture. “Good Vibrations” is generally recognized as the song that most clearly illustrates their musical innovations.

A recent review says:

“Super cool Cali guys, with songs that will bring your mind on holiday. Couldn't avoid but dancing.”

The Beach Boys will appear at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on August 6. Poster printing gives organizers of this type of event a great method for creating dynamic publicity.
