Chilean reggae band to perform in San Diego

A reggae band from Chile is scheduled to take to the stage in San Diego soon.

Gondwana has been performing, touring, and recording for more than 30 years. They first got together in 1997 in Santiago, with I-Locks Labbé as the founding member. With Quique Neira as their leader, they began to enjoy success in Chile, and later abroad.

The group has eight members, three “permanent” bandsmen and five touring personnel. The three are bassist I-Locks Labbé, the founder; keyboardist Keno Valenzuela, who has been with the outfit for 27 years; and saxophonist Jorge “Gato” Ramos, who has been on the job for 25 years.

The band blends Jamaican and Latin sounds, along with a dash of soul and rock. The combination has proved to be a winning formula, and Gondwana has been recognized throughout the world as one of the most successful bands to ever come from Chile in all genres, not just reggae.

In addition to releasing nine albums—the last, “Carpe Diem,” dropped in 2017—the band has toured widely and appeared at some of the biggest music festivals in both North and South America. These include the “Quito Fest” in Ecuador, the “Cosquin Rock” in Argentina, and Chicago’s “Rudio Fest.” In 2016, Gondwana became the first Latin band to appear at California’s “Cali Roots.”

Gondwana will perform at the Music Box events venue in San Diego on Tuesday, April 9. Organizers of events like this can work with poster printing to create advertisements.
