From dead parrots to disintegrating knights, a gifted comedian and actor who has created some of the most memorable work in entertainment is coming to San Diego.
Eric Idle is a native of South Shields, a town in County Durham in the UK. He attended Pembroke College, Cambridge, to major in English literature, where he received his B.A. and became involved in theater as the president of The Footlights Dramatic Club.
He was part of the annual Footlights Revue, which played in London for a brief time, and went on to spend a year at the Leicester Rep before relocating to London where he appeared in two TV films, and began writing for BBC Radio.
In 1968, he started writing and performing in “Do Not Adjust Your Set,” a children’s program, which also featured Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. This led to the inspired lunacy for which he is best known, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” The half-hour sketch show ran for four years and spawned a series of films and stage productions that are equally silly.
He collaborated with John Du Prez on the musical “Spamalot,” which was directed by Mike Nichols and ran on Broadway for four years, and won three Tonys, including Best Musical, a Grammy, and a Writers Desk Award.
Eric Idle will be at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego on September 27. Event planners often work with shops who use poster printing to create publicity.
