A pair of multi-instrumentalists with vastly different styles will soon appear together in San Diego.
K. Ishibashi is a native of Seattle, but spent his childhood in the Eastern United States. A songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, Ishibashi has worked as a touring violinist for Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and Of Montreal.
In 2003, Ishibashi co-founded Jupiter One, an indie-pop group based in Brooklyn. The group subsequently dropped two EPs and two albums, then the artist went solo in 2011, changing his name slightly to Kishi Bashi. He continued to open for his old friends Of Montreal, Alexi Murdoch, and Lerche, and released his solo debut album, “151A,” under his new name. He dropped his second album, “Lighght,” in 2014. His latest release is 2019’s “Omoiyari.”
Appearing with Kishi Bashi is Tall Tall Trees, the stage name of banjo expert Mike Savino. Though he occasionally performs with others, Savino most often solos as what he calls a “one-man psychedelic indie-folk orchestra.” An acclaimed banjoist, he plays an instrument he built himself that he calls the “Banjotron 5000.” In live performances, he puts his homemade banjo through various loopers and pedals to create a textured sound that serves his complex lyrics.
The two musicians will be at the Music Box on June 11. Events like this can benefit from having inventive, colorful advertising, which organizers can devise using poster printing.
