Summer camp set to delight in San Diego

A summer camp is coming up in San Diego that offers learning opportunities in an exceptional setting.

The Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park comprises 12 acres and is a peaceful green space laid out as a traditional Japanese garden. It opened in 1991 to express the ties of friendship between the sister cities of San Diego and Yokohama. Among the garden’s amenities are koi ponds, a grove of cherry trees, a water feature, and a large garden of azaleas and camellias. The garden is a perfect place to learn.

There are three sessions coming up. The first is for those in grades 1-2; the second for those in grades 3-5; and the final session is for those 6-8. Each session is three days long and is further divided into three subjects that will be covered each day.

Children in grades 1-2 will study subjects such as bonsai and composting and will be able to make their own wind chimes. Those in grades 3-5 will be learning about puppetry and koi; and those in grades 6-8 will study bees, among other subjects. Many of the subjects such as mixed martial arts and flow yoga will be taught at all levels.

The sessions are scheduled for 9.00 am until 12.00 pm all days. The grade 1-2 session is June 23-25; grades 3-5 is from June 29 through July 2; and the oldest children’s sessions are July 6 through July 9. Graphic design can be used to enhance materials for events like this.
