Southeast San Diego representatives look to publicize its perks

City officials in San Diego are working to correct any misconceptions people may hold about the area.

Councilwoman Myrtle Cole, who represents District 4, which includes much of Southeast San Diego, notes that the area has $1.6bn it can spend. Not only that, but ‘Southeast’ (as it is often called), is one of the safer neighborhoods in the city, with the third lowest crime rate in San Diego. These stats may help shake off some negative perceptions of the area.

In order to encourage developers and prospective retailers to consider locating operations in Southeast, Kevin Faulconer, San Diego's mayor, and Councilwoman Cole have set up a bus tour for next month. The plan to show retailers and developers the area, and try to disprove the myth that the area has problems with crime and poverty.

Faulconer believes this area is one of the most ready for development in all of San Diego, and is optimistic the tour, which is scheduled for February 19, will succeed in bringing new investment and projects to the district.

City officials might consider working with local professional brochure printers to create a booklet for the visitors about Southeast San Diego, complete with facts and figures that illustrate the buying power found there, as well as statistics about the low crime rate.
