Lauren Mayberry was born in Thornhill, Stirling in Scotland, and began playing drums in her teens. She had been playing the piano since childhood. She spent time in the U.S. as an exchange student, earned an undergraduate law degree, and went on to obtain a master’s in journalism. She then went on to win the Royal Environmental Health Institute for Scotland Journalism Award in 2010, which led to her work in production running and freelance journalism.
Mayberry was the percussionist and lead vocalist of the group Chvrches, a pop band, until recently. She, Martin Doherty, and Iain Cook co-produced and co-wrote the songs. Chvrches dates from 2011, when Cook and Doherty started a project and asked Mayberry to provide the vocals on several demos. The trio worked together for several months in Glasgow. The sessions were successful, and they decided to form a band.
Glassnote Records signed the band in 2013, and released “Recover,” their debut EP in 2013. Their inaugural album, “The Bones of What You Believe,” appeared that same year. In 2023, Mayberry announced she would be releasing solo works. A review calls her:
“. . . a breakout indie diva in the making.”
Lauren Mayberry will be at the House of Blues, a live performance venue near the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego’s downtown, on January 28. Organizers of concerts like this often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
