Four parks in San Diego County have been temporarily closed, according to officials, due to excessive heat.
The parks are Wilderness Gardens, Mt. Gower Preserve, Hellhole Canyon Preserve, and El Capitan Reserve. While the parks are off limits to visitors, maintenance crews will take advantage of the downtime to perform projects such as trail maintenance. Poster printing is often used to create signage for situations like this.
In addition to these four parks, two others have been closed for the summer: Vallecito County Park and Agua Caliente Regional Park.
Although these six parks are shut down temporarily, there are over 100 others throughout the county that will remain open all summer. These venues host various events such as live entertainment, arts and crafts activities, movie screenings, and food trucks. A complete list of all the parks in the county, the activities scheduled, and their opening hours are on the county website at sdparks.org.
Officials with the parks and recreation department remind people who plan to visit a park, particularly in such hot weather, to take a number of precautions. They suggest that anyone planning a hike or a visit to a park should wear lightweight clothing, put on plenty of sunscreen, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a map, as well as a cellphone with a fully charged battery. Visitors should also tell someone their plans and when they expect to return.
