Rally's plans to open more restaurants in San Diego

Rally's, a fast-food chain known for catering to consumers with lower incomes, is considering expanding its operations in San Diego.

At one time, Rally's had a significant presence in the city, but now operates only five locations. However, it's tentatively planning to add 20 new restaurants in the next five years. One is due to open early in 2017 on 30th Street in the Logan Heights neighborhood.

Robert Bhagwandat, Rally's and Checker's Franchise Director, said that Rally's concept is unique, in that the chain caters to people with little disposable income. The restaurants like to say that a person can come in with only $5 and buy a complete meal, and the prices enable them to return frequently.

Bhagwandat also noted that Rally's has a limited-time offer every month, which also brings customers back. This month, the chain is offering a sandwich, drink, fries, and apple pie for $3.

The Logan Heights franchise will be run by Bruce Ong, who is of the opinion that the time is right for Rally's to return to the local marketplace. He believes the restaurant’s offerings have improved, even if Rally's does not have a lot of brand recognition in the city.

Rally's is considering opening locations not only in San Diego proper, but in suburbs like Lakeside, Spring Valley, National City, and La Mesa.

Companies like this can benefit if they work with flyer printing companies, who can create handouts for distribution near the new location, inviting people to stop in.
