Playing the blues in San Diego

An award-winning blues guitarist is on tour and will appear in San Diego.

Joanne Shaw Taylor comes from the Midlands in England, and was inspired to play the blues after listening to artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Her first album was 2009’s “White Sugar,” which she followed up the next year with “Diamonds in the Dirt.” Both efforts climbed to the No. 8 spot on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

Taylor was named “Best Female Vocalist” by the British Blues Awards in 2010 and again in 2011. A track from “Diamonds in the Dirt,” the single “Same As It Never Was,” earned Taylor the honor of being named “Songwriter of the Year.”

Synth-pop legend Annie Lennox and her band the Eurythmics were part of the Diamond Jubilee Concert in London in 2012, a performance in which Taylor played lead guitar. Among the approximately 12,000 people who listened to the music was Stevie Wonder, who told Taylor her how much he enjoyed her work.

Taylor released “Nobody’s Fool” in 2022, and is now touring to support the album, which critics call:

“The most versatile album in Joanne Shaw Taylor’s career.”

Concertgoers can expect to hear material from the new album, but also tunes from Taylor’s extensive catalog, which now spans 11 albums. A review says:

“As always she was brilliant . . .”

Taylor will appear at the Balboa Theatre on Saturday, April 1. When events like this are planned, organizers can promote them using poster printing.
