Colorful, dynamic music is coming to San Diego next month.
Mariachi is probably best defined as regional Mexican music, and it has been played for hundreds of years. Typical mariachi groups comprise two trumpets, as many as eight violins, and a guitar – either a vihuela, which has a high pitch, or a guitarrón, which is an acoustic bass guitar. The players double as vocalists, taking turns as backup singers and lead performers.
An upcoming concert is the Mariachi Scholarship Foundation's 2023 San Diego International Mariachi Summit Gala Concert. The bands include Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán 'El Mejor Mariachi de Jalisco', Ballet Folklórico Internacional, the San Diego Binational Symphony Orchestra, and the Mariachi Champaña Nevin, which is based in San Diego.
Mariachi Champaña Nevin comprises both classical and mariachi musicians who are considered to be virtuosos of their art. They play both European classical music and traditional Mariachi works, led by conductor, trumpeter, and composer Jeff Nevin.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the Mariachi Scholarship Foundation, which promotes mariachi education in the San Diego area. It also provides scholarships to college students who take part in these educational programs. The Foundation has awarded over $600K in scholarships to date.
The gala will be held at the Balboa Theatre on July 14 at 7:30 pm. Events like this offer organizers the perfect opportunity to use poster printing to create stunning advertising for the occasion.
