Legendary actor/comic coming to downtown San Diego

One of the legends of comedy will appear at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego, and things are likely to get deliciously weird.

From the Ministry of Silly Walks to men slapping each other with fish, to the “Life of Brian” and “Fawlty Towers,” John Cleese has had people all over the world laughing for decades.

He first came to public notice as a member of the troupe behind the wacky television hit show, “Monty Python and the Flying Circus.” The BBC aired the show from 1969 until 1974, and it was picked up all over the world, giving members of the cast international stardom. They went on to develop musicals, Books, albums, films, and even live shows, many of them based on the TV show. The musical stage show, “Spamalot,” opened on Broadway in 2005, ran for 1,575 performances, and won a Tony for Best Musical.

Cleese also had another hit show, “Fawlty Towers,” and won an Oscar nomination for his script for the film, “A Fish Called Wanda,” which he and Charles Chrichton co-wrote. His appearances give him a chance to entertain audiences with his special brand of comedy, and share highlights of his career with them in a Q&A session.

John Cleese will be in San Diego for two shows, April 8 and 9, both set to start at 7.30 pm. When performances like this are planned, organizers will often work with poster printing to create suitable advertising.
