Iconic rockers to sake up San Diego

A group that has been going strong for over 50 years is coming to San Diego.

ZZ Top was born in 1969 when Billy Gibbons, a man the legendary Jimi Hendrix said would be the next hot guitarist, joined up with Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums) in Houston, Texas. The original lineup has remained the same throughout the band’s career – a rarity in the music business.

Once they had their lineup solidified, the group created their signature sound, based on Gibbons’ unique guitar work and Hill and Beard’s outstanding rhythm section. They were successful immediately and released anthems like “La Grange.” They dropped “Eliminator” in 1983 and shocked everyone with their new approach. They added sequencers and synthesizers to the sound they had honed, and although some fans objected, “Eliminator” sold more than ten million Copies, and was the source of classic hits such as “Sharp Dressed Man.”

They have released 15 studio albums and have also been involved in films and television. Their music has been used on the series “St. Elsewhere,” and appeared in “Back to the Future Part III” as the party band. A concert review says:

“The band proves their reputation and influence is duly deserved . . .”

ZZ Top will be at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay on Friday, November 1. Venues that host events like this may decide to contact a printer and ask them to use poster printing to create advertising for the concert.
