America, who have been packing concert venues for decades, are on the way to America’s Finest City where they are sure to perform favorites such as “Sister Golden Hair,” and “A Horse with No Name.”
Dan Peek, Dewey Burnell, and Gerry Beckley, who were children of U.S. Air Force personnel, formed America in 1970 in London. Warner Bros. signed the group that year, and in 1971 they released “America,” their debut, which included “I Need You” and the smash hit “A Horse with No Name.”
In 1972, they won a Grammy in the category of Best New Musical Artist, and continued turning out hits such as “Lonely People,” “Tin Man,” and “Ventura Highway.” America gave their fans a surprise in 2007, when they dropped “Here & Now,” their first album since “Human Nature,” which appeared in 1998. The album won high praise from critics and send the group on tour. Just this year, they released “Alternates & Rarities,” a compilation of rarely heard tracks and mixes.
A review of an America concert says:
“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”
America will appear at Humphrey’s by the Bay at 7:30 pm on Friday, July 8. Fans enjoy learning about their favorite performers, so organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create programs for the audience.
