People who would like to join their friends in an activity with a difference will have the chance soon.
The American Sewing Guild, Santa Rosa, has established a series of “Sit and Sew with a Pro” events, which are held in Rohnert Park, at the Cross and Crown Lutheran Church. The participants are invited to come and work on sewing projects, with the added perk of having a professional instructor on hand.
There are two professionals on the roster for the classes: Lyra Bobo and Ginny Winter. Bobo works at Santa Rosa Junior College as a Fashion Studies Instructor, and Winter was also in the fashion department at SRJC, as well as holding a position with the City College of San Francisco.
Participants are asked to bring their own sewing machines and any accessories they need. Pressing equipment, boards, irons, and cutting tables will be provided. In addition, sewers will have access to elevated tables, where they can use rotary cutting mats to cut out their patterns.
The amount of professional instruction available will depend on the number of people who sign up for the classes. This ranges from no professional assistance if there are nine or fewer participants, to six hours of help if 20 or more people attend.
The first “Sit and Sew” event of the new year is scheduled for January 16, 2021, with Lyra Bobo. Flyer printing can be used to provide informational handouts for events like this.
