The citizens of Rohnert Park are getting ready for the 10th Annual St. George’s Greek and Middle Eastern Festival. The two-day event features traditional food and drink, dances, and plenty of prizes.
Both days of the fest are packed with entertainment. A Greek DJ will open up the festivities and there will be multiple performances by a local Dabke group, as well as live Arabic music performed by Nader Zaki. Volunteers at the event will teach traditional Greek and Middle Eastern dances so that visitors can get in on the action all day long.
The event will also have a very extensive International Market. Visitors will be able to buy traditional jewelry, clothing, and ingredients while stopping off to get a Henna tattoo or relax in a Hookah Lounge. A children’s area also provides a bounce house, face painting, popcorn, and candy.
Vendors at the market will also sell a wide variety of traditional food, including shawarma (an Arabic meat dish), falafel, hummus, gyros, and kiftas. Visitors can sip an Arabic or Greek coffee afterwards as they nibble on one of the other desserts on the menu, including pastry and nut treat baklava. On the last day of the festival, a raffle will be held giving away prizes such as an iPad or Apple Watch.
The 10th Annual St. George’s Greek and Middle Eastern Festival will be held on August 13 and 14 at St George Greek Orthodox Church, located at 7311 College View Dr. Admission is free, though visitors will have to pay for food and drinks. Flyers and other information are available on the website.
