Residents in the Rohnert Park region are getting ready for the Sixth Annual Wine Country Big Q. The competition and public tasting combines wine and smoked meat in a celebration of the best California has to offer.
The competition aspect is sponsored by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, meaning the event is sure to draw in professional level pitmasters. Teams will compete on a variety of meats including chicken, pork ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket and mystery meat. Prizes ranging from $500 to $100 for the top five in each category.
Additionally, wineries in the area will compete in the Winery Big Beef Challenge, a people’s choice competition to see which winery chef has the best tri-tip in the area. Other competitions include a baked bean challenge and a dessert bake off where the recipe must include bacon.
Visitors to the event will be able to pay for tasting tickets to sample the various entries a well as some promotional Drinkware that can be used to sample the wine and beer available from local sources. A limited number of guests will also be allowed early bird access where they can learn how to better barbecue a chicken. On top of the good food and beverages, live music by bands Soul to Soul and Purple Haze will provide entertainment for the duration.
The Sixth Annual Wine Country Big Q will be held on July 9 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, located at 175 Fairgrounds Dr. Tickets cost $45 per person and include eight tasting tickets and the glass. Anyone interested in more information should visit the website.
