The event has a target audience of youngsters below 15 years old who are interested in angling activities.
Attendees will have to bring their own fishing poles and equipment. Bait such as powerbait or worms will be provided. Preparation for the event will include cleaning up the park the week before starting to make sure any potential dangers have been identified.
The fishing derby's structure is made to increase people's involvement in outdoor activities and enhance community feeling among those living in Rohnert Park and nearby locations. Out of the 100 kids that attended last year's derby, only ten of them were unable to catch a fish. Those who did were awarded a medal that read:
“I caught a fish at the Rohnert Park Fishing Derby"
If it was the first time that they had ever caught a fish, they also got a certificate. Printing services can be used to create award certificates.
The Rohnert Park Fishing Derby for Kids has been successful over the years because of the support from community members and sponsorships from companies such as CSC Flooring and Design, The Community Voice, and Innovative Screen Printing that assist in keeping the event free.
The Rohnert Park Fishing Derby for Kids is planned on May 25th at Roberts Lake.
