As the holiday season draws to a close, many will have had more than their fill of cookies, cakes, and rich foods and will be looking to turn over a new leaf as their Calendars turn to 2017. To this end, The Rohnert Park Cotati Regional Library is looking to help people get started with its seminar ‘Winter Vegetables - Beyond Broccoli’.
Since, many familiar vegetables are out of season and it can be daunting to try out the new ones, the library has partnered with Jill Nussinow, the ‘Veggie Queen’ and an instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College, to help demystify these new greens
She will talk about the different options and their health benefits, including common California options like bok choy, parsnips, escarole, and rutabaga. She will then provide some recipes and cooking techniques that include these vegetables, along with some samples for attendees to taste.
The talk is part of the Healthy Living series at the library. As part of the fun, attendees who join the Healthy Living Club, attend this lecture and two others, complete a personal health challenge of their choice, and check out one fitness DVD or health book will be entered into a drawing where they could win prizes such as a Fitbit, Sonoma County Parks pass, or a yoga kit.
Winter Vegetables - Beyond Broccoli will be held on January 7 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Rohnert Park Library, located at 6250 Lynne Conde Way. Admission is free, but preregistration is required. Anyone looking for more info should visit the website.
