Rohnert Park book discussion takes flight

Residents in Rohnert Park are looking forward to Meet the Birds – a joint event sponsored by the Rohnert Park Cotati Library and the Bird Rescue Center. The combination of nature show and book discussion is being billed as family friendly fun.

The book in question is ‘H is for Hawk’, by Helen MacDonald, which is a genre mashup of memoirs, nature guides, and shadow biographies. The story follows Helen, a trained falconer, as she deals with her father’s death by training a goshawk.

Currently in its second round of printing by publisher and Print company Jonathan Cape, Copies are available at the library and in most bookstores for visitors who want to read the book in preparation.

Alongside the book discussion, the Bird Rescue Center of Sonoma County will be bringing several birds of prey for a demonstration that coincides with some of the book content. The goal of the Bird Rescue Center is to assist in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured or orphaned wild birds in the bay area. Alongside monthly open houses, the group offers several such demonstrations each year to teach the public and raise awareness about local birdlife.

Meet the Birds will be held on May 6 starting at 11:00 am at the Rohnert Park Cotati Regional Library, located at 6250 Lynne Conde Way. Admission is free to the public. Anyone looking for more information should contact the library directly.
